sounds kind of fishy, i'd watch it - but i dont know of any scams that go THAT way, usually it involves sending you an obscene amount of money and then you having to give some back. i bought my '90 on craigslist... it might be better for someone to show up and actually look at and buy your motorcycle, rather than try to do some seemingly shady deal like that.

 

yeah it sounded to good. I think he said he would send more money and that i would just take what the bike is selling for and then send the rest to his "shiping agent" via western union so that they will come to pick it up. fishy!!!! well if i did get a check, would the bank be able to determine if its a fake, or not? and if it is, would i be in any trouble? he did say he'll wait for it to clear.

 

Total scam.Don't go for it.

I sold my car on craigslist and learned a few lessons. Sell it to someone who can come and look at it, go to the bank with them for the financial transaction, and go to the DMV with them for all the paperwork stuff.

My friend sold a car for $300 5 years ago, and since he didn't go to the DMV with the person who bought it the paperwork was never completed correctly. Now he has a court date to contest a $2100 towing and storage bill, for a $300 car that's not his.

 

ya that is a common scam, dont go for it. sell local you can meet in person with cash/check.

 

I bought my bike off of craigslist, its really the only place I looked.

I also sold my car on craigslist. You just have to be smart.

 

I bought my bike on CL and have tried to sell a few other things on there... but right in the CL disclaimer it says that it is for LOCAL people to handle CASH transactions and to never deal w/ someone outside of your area.

 

I'm currently trying to sell my wifes '07 Honda Metropolitan on Craig's List. We have had so many people respond with "associates" and bad grammar that I am thinking of pulling it. The problem with checks like that is even if the bank cashes it for you upfront it can still be flagged as a fraudulant check because there was no funds in the account. A friend of mine sold an item on ebay and got a "certified check" for $1000 more than his asking price and was supposed to find a shipper with the extra $1000 and keep whatever was left over. He did just that. Cashed the check found a shipper and off went his item. Two weeks later his bank called and said he needed to return the money. Be careful.

 

Isn't the whole purpose of Craigslist to sell LOCALLY?

 

Any Money order \ Cashiers Check is MOST likely fake. I would only do local trades as thats how I sold my dirtbike and bought my EX500.

 

Craigslist has a warning about cashiers checks/money orders and using a Western Union agent. They specifically say it's a scam.

Haven't sold via craigslist but that's where I bought my ex500 from. I just paid the dude in cash. He didn't seem to mind.
