Brake Pedal Height Adjustment

I have the Gen 1 manual and a Gen 2 bike. In the manual is says that the brake pedal should be 0-20mm below the foot peg. Mine is lower. I'm pretty sure it doesn't really affect braking power much, it's just that my foot needs to travel further. I wanted to adjust the height, but I can't really get to anything because of the plate that is in front of it (to which the pedal is mounted). Do I need to take it off to adjust? But if I take it off, then it would be hard to judge pedal's position relative to the peg. Or is there a trick here that I haven't thought of?

Thank you.

Plate? Hrm....

I remember it being easy, twisting a nut to adjust the angle of the pedal, and then making sure the plunger/spring for the brake light was set correctly (it'll probably get pushed in if you lower the pedal and turn your brake light on, so this has to be adjusted).

I'm not sure what the technical term is...maybe a bracket?? I'm attaching a pic to show what bit I'm talking about...

I was also thinking that it would be easy. I figured out how to adjust when the brake light comes on, but not how to adjust the height of the pedal.

And what appear to be adjustment nuts are right behind it. Or are those not the adjustment nuts??

I believe I did this by reaching behind somehow, perhaps from below or the side with a small adjustable wrench.

The nuts that adjust it should be pretty obvious and are I think the first ones that you get from the brake pedal. The smaller spring attached to the plunger is for the brake light, and I believe it's in front of the larger system that controls the angle of the brake pedal.

Ahh, I found my old thread:

Check the attached image. White arrow is the brake pedal angle adjustment.

Green arrow points to the spring/nut that is behind the plate. It's a tricky adjustment because the nut is surrounded on two sides by a piece of metal. It's a strange adjustment, but you have to hold the spring when adjusting otherwise the spring will twist around and pull the nut back the way you just turned it.

I thought that was the adjustment nut. I'll try to wiggle my way in there somehow... The brake light adjustment is a piece of cake...

just easier maintenance I guess...although if your don't race, brakes have a pretty long life.

Wheel swap between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 is also complicated by them having different wheel sizes. There used to be a wiki about what is needed to accomplish the swap. You might try searching for it to see what all is involved.

So the gen 2's have hydraulic brakes huh. Can those be retrofitted to a gen 1 if I swap the wheel or would it require a swingarm swap and all?
The swing arms and axle adjustment systems are totally different...and there is no grove for the caliper mount on the 1rst gen swing arm.
