Engine Rebuild Kit???

Does anyone know of a full rebuild kit for a '92 ex500, maybe even with the carburetor rebuild parts included? Gaskets, seals, rings, bearings all that jazz? I am thinking I should just dive all the way to the deep end at this point.
Thanks

You should be able to with no performance issues.
All the "real fun" will be with fitting them. Haha

Just do the K&N stock replacement, airbox mod, install the cans... and then dial the mix per my write up and you should be good to go as long as the cans weren't gutted out or something funky.

Good luck

Not neccesarily.
Although too much changing of the exhaust can have some negative impact.
The bike needs some back pressure to scavenge properly.

The best thing to do with this bike and get the most/best performance out of it is to leave the carbs stock jetting and airbox in place.
Add a K&N (or UNI if you're in to those things) drop in replacement.
Do the airbox mod... It's either in Wiki or the "Mods and upgrades" section as a sticky for instructions.

Put the ST cans on... then go to the Wiki... Carb Maintenance... Cleaning... Scroll all the way to down to TASK 9.1 and follow my write up for dialing in the pilot mix.

NO to the pods.
The EX doesn't respond well to them and IF, after a fair amount of tuning, you actually get it to idle and rev smoothly... you still will have wound up losing HP. Just the nature of the game with this bike.

The CVK carbs on the EX need the airbox.

And that whole... "Well my buddy put them on his such-and-such and was fine." thing...
He may had but he wasn't riding an EX either.

The world got a hold of me for a couple of days... Thanks for the info. I will hit up Ducatiman about a rebuild kit. I have a new flywheel and stator already (gen 2) and some high flow pods coming. Time to search the forum for the flywheel modification....

And, to answe your question - nope, no "rebuild kit" available. There are diffenernt bearing thicknesses in the bottom end, so you actually have to tear down before ordering new.

Though Ducatiman on here sells carb rebuild kits, or will trade in your old stock jetted carbs for a good-as-new refurbed set for $150. If I were you I would clean the airbox, fuel tank, all electrical connections, install a new and fully charged battery and either rebuild the carbs with Ducatiman's kit, or change in a set of his refurbished ones (totally worth the money), change oil and filter, check valve clearance quickly, change coolant and kick it in the guts and see what happens.

I personally call these engines BIC LIGHTERS, they are disposable. You can find a low mileage engine cheap enough, add to that you can get a 2nd Gen one which has better CCT, flywheel, and transmission.

As Fog has pointed out, these engines are not as easy as one thinks.

Ok most of the mysteries involve the bearings. The head will require new valves and re cutting the seats + lapping. So if you just want it to run you might re think taking it apart. I call it a Humpty. Dumpy engine as you cannot just put it back together again. Might suggest you just go through the ignition and carbs to see how it runs .
