First things first, I'm pretty new to bikes and also to this forum. I have a 2006 EX-500 with about 6500 miles on it, and I had an oil pump failure. I found one of the threads on here about the pump grinding up the washer so I split the cases and sure enough, no washer. So far so good.
The problem is this: I found a 32 mm long dowel/rod/pin (picture attached) in the bottom of the oil pan and I have no idea where it came from. I didn't notice it drop out of anywhere when I took the cases apart but I assume that's what happened. I looked at all of the diagrams for the bike and the only part that seems close is the dowel in the camshaft tensioner but it feels like that dowel is still in there.
Does anyone have an idea where my mystery dowel is supposed to go? Alternatively, maybe it's not an EX-500 part and a PO dropped it in the engine but I obviously want to be sure before I assume that.
